Mu Palace (木府; Mùfǔ). The palace where the Mu Clan of the Naxi people ruled for over 400 years. It is a large complex that extends part way up the hill behind it. At the top is a Daoist temple, with a few Daoists ready to give fortunes to visitors for a donation. A taste of Mulaoye Wine (木老爷酒; Mùlǎoyejiǔ), a kind of local alcohol, is available for ¥5 (in a shot glass), and there is also a free tea tasting area. Allow at least 2 hours to walk explore this expansive complex and do wander off into the side courtyards as it will take you back to the main courtyards. If you are visiting Wangulou, exit the Lion Hill Park from the south exit which leads you right into the back entrance of Mu Palace. Entry fee is ¥45 (May 200909), and the non-posted student price is ¥20.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山; Yùlóngxuě Shān), (15km from Lijiang. Mules can be rented from the nearby Baisha Village or you can take a cable car to the top. Prices vary for the mules depending on what elevation you want to go to. ¥180 to ride to 3800 meters plus ¥5 for insurance. ¥300 to 4200 meters. ¥350 to 4600 meters. If you pay for the lowest elevation you might be able to bargain with the handlers when you reach the end and continue to the higher elevations for a lower price. Passengers over 100 kg might have to pay a surcharge. Tickets for the cable car cost ¥170 round-trip). A mountain massif (also identified as a small mountain range) visible from Lijiang and capped all year round. Its highest peak is Shanzidou (扇子陡; Shānzidǒu) at 5,596m. The view of the massif from the gardens at the Black Dragon Pool in Lijiang is noted as one of China's finest views. The far side of the mountain forms one side of Tiger Leaping Gorge (虎跳峡; Hǔtiàoxiá). Entrance to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain ¥190, which only seems to be collected when entering from the Lijiang end.

Black Dragon Pool (黑龙潭; Hēilóngtán), (About 1 km from Square Street). 8AM-5PM. Free, but you have to show your receipt of the Old Town Preservation, which is costs ¥80.

QUOTE:

Understanding annual reports

A few words from the auditor and chairman can be revealing.
By Stuart Wilson, Australian Shareholders' Association

It is a sad fact that most retail shareholders do not bother to read the annual reports of companies they own. If you challenge yourself to track down the electronic version of the annual report or request a hard copy from the company, you will be ahead of the majority of your peers in the marketplace.

It is the single most illuminating document you are entitled to each year and goes a long way to helping you understand the business in which you are a part owner.

Get in the habit of reading annual reports, not only of the companies you invest in but also competitors and other potential investments. The annual report is a goldmine of information and the nuggets you uncover could make, or save, you a small fortune over time.

Start with the audit certificate

When you open the report, first make sure the figures in it provide a true and fair view - you want to see that the auditor has no issues.

Many companies have an additional paragraph or two attached to their audit certificates. The 'emphasis of matter' is a way the auditor can draw your attention to an issue facing the company without qualifying the accounts. The main issue will relate to 'going concern', which usually means the auditor sees some uncertainty surrounding the company's ability to roll over bank debt.

Keeping the audit statement in mind, next delve into the actual accounts - income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and notes to the accounts.

Educate yourself on company analysis

If you are not in the business of accounting or investment, it is essential that you invest some time in educating yourself. Interpreting the results, performing ratio analysis and forecasting are all essential activities that make up the analysis of any company. The ASX website and the ASA education program are great places to start for the basics.

Look closely at debt

It would be neglectful not to take a close look at companies' debt positions at June 30. Excessive, or even only moderately high levels of debt, will require companies to explain their positions on interest cover and their relationship with their bankers.

Debt covenants are also in the spotlight this year. These are essentially trigger points at which a bank can call in loans. Covenants can be based on profitability, market capitalisation or asset values, or some other measure or event. Check the notes to the accounts to see if the company was in breach of any covenants. It is a huge warning signal.

Debt concerns have also left companies wanting to boost their balance sheets. Investors in the past 18 months or so have become jittery over companies with relatively high gearing ratios; and asset values have fallen, compounding the problem.

Valuations accountability

When asset values are rising, company management is content. When they are falling, usually the company blames the way the accounting standards require value to be measured, rather than admitting a substantive loss in value. If you read this type of obfuscation, question management's ability to hold themselves accountable and take responsibility.

Property valuations also have been slashed during this year's confession season. However, some have been less cut-throat than others. In particular, expect to see extra explanation and commentary on valuations that have been performed by directors, even down to the assumptions that have been used.

If these are not present, it is a signal that shareholders and analysts might not have the same rosy view as the directors.

Companies that have been on the expansion trail may incur write-downs in the value of intangible assets as they face up to the fact that they overpaid for businesses purchased during the past couple of years.

Governance and remuneration

Do not skip the corporate governance statement. It may look similar year after year but it should not be. Expect to see improvements in the way companies describe share trading policies, the approach to risk management and a tightening of remuneration practices this year.

Companies operate on an 'if not, why' regime for this report. If a company does not comply with best practice it must provide an explanation as to why. Carefully, even cynically, assess their reasoning and factor it into the overall risks associated with the company.

The way the senior executive team is remunerated can often have a huge effect on their decision-making. The remuneration report is mandatory reading because it indicates the amount of backbone the board of directors have (as reflected in pay restraint or otherwise). If pay is predominantly short-term in nature, or has performance hurdles that are easy to clear, this can ring alarm bells for long-term investors.

Looking back, going forward

The annual report is a review of the prior year, but for some time it has also been used to provide guidance on what the company expects to see over the next 12 months and beyond. Best-practice annual reports show the key performance indicators (KPIs) for the prior year, how the company performed relative to each KPI, and the KPIs for the next period.

Motherhood statements espousing quiet confidence in a period of uncertainty belie a lack of conviction on the part of management.

A key word from the chairman

The chairman's address is usually worth reading to find the word or phrase that has been used to describe the prior year's profit performance. Keep in mind that the spin doctors have often had their turn at wordsmithing in order to euphemise bad results.

Rest assured that if the chairman describes the result as terrific, excellent or stellar, it is likely that profits reached or exceeded optimistic forecasts.

Last reporting season saw the primary use of three adjectives - strong, solid and sound. Indeed, most of the 20 largest listed companies adopted one of the three words. They describe profits that were hard earned, by no means stellar, and possibly disappointing.

Watch out for words that sugar-coat terrible results, such as satisfactory or (worse still) mixed. It is an indication of how upfront the company's stewards are with their owners and how willing they are to take responsibility for the results.

So-called 'underlying profit'

Nothing beats the audited accounts as a starting point. You may want to make adjustments to earnings in order to better reflect the underlying performance of the business, but it is better that you do it rather than rely on the so-called 'underlying earnings/profits' provided by the company.

Underlying earnings or profits will be popular this year as some companies fail to resist the urge to dress up their results. Before relying on them, make sure they are treated consistently in prior years, they are fully reconciled to the actual result, and are not simply EBATB (Earnings Before All Things Bad).

I like pictures and graphs - my eyes are drawn to them. But I don't let this very human trait get in the way of my critical assessment of long-term company performance. When reviewing graphs, ask yourself why the particular metrics were selected and how appropriate they are. Have they been carefully selected to put the company in a positive light? Are there any graphs conspicuous in their absence (such as audited earnings per share)?

My Dream Home is here with me

Attractive dinning set, couldn't say NO to it, only thing worried me might be the oversided glass top, but who cares, I am still very into those romantic fairy tales, so complicated marble/stone liking design just helped me decided all - take home without further consideration, accept whatever comes.
Till now, never get regret about buying it, all compliments so far.

The mirror is not in the best position it should be, suppose to be right on dinning set, but this way just gives convenience to bro & me before stepping out the door, so be there, not too bad ah.
My little display coner, all girly stuff, perfum collection, aroma sets, essential oil, and of course several bottle of wine, even I am not a drinker, but couldn't resist to show off.
White Sofa, this is the only thing I hope didn't invest money in, too difficult to maintain & take care of & not as comfortable as those massage sofachairs. Shouldn't be so childish just simply fall in love with the looking, after all, this is the one will hold me for yrs. Just like BF, choose the right one but no need to be handsome - lol, im genius, can be thinking of relationship from an unwanted sofa.
46" LCD TV wanted here, too expensive so far, no hurry to buy in, choose the right one will be priority, see, I learn from my sofa expeirence.
Bro's bathroom, bit small for him, but good to have this, after a week long busy, would be quite relexing if can take a wkd aroma bath.
Pics say it all - Kitchen!!!

Corner of stairs with this dull simpson, cute one though.
Again, fairy tales, a little over.

QUOTE: China back on track

A rebound in Chinese economic growth is good for Australian shares.
By Shane Oliver, AMP

Several indicators are pointing to a recovery underway in China after its economy slowed sharply late last year - highlighted by a slump in gross domestic product (GDP) growth from a peak of nearly 13 per cent in 2007 to just 6.1 per cent in the March 2009 quarter.

There has been much talk of 'green shoots' of recovery globally but these signs have been much stronger and more broad-based in China. Talk of a hard landing (defined as 6 per cent or less annual growth in China) is now giving way to confidence that GDP growth this year will be around 8 per cent.

Talk of a recovery in China has been met with disbelief by many; the most common concern is that Chinese growth is dependent on the US consumer market and if that remains weak then so will China.

Implications for Australia

China is now Australia's second-largest export market so any recovery in Chinese economic growth is good news for us. Chinese domestic demand, particularly the surge in infrastructure spending now being seen, and stronger consumption growth over time, is highly commodity-intensive.

Coming off the back of cutbacks in the supply of commodities, China's economic recovery is likely to be positive for commodity prices, which already look as if they are starting to recover. A recovery in China should also start to help boost growth in other trading partners across Asia.
After the fall in bulk iron ore and coal prices flows through to Australia's terms of trade, we should start to see an improvement in export earnings from later this year.

Strengthening commodity prices are also good news for the Australian dollar, which has probably seen its lows for this cycle.

Chinese policies are bearing fruit

During the December quarter last year the focus of Chinese policymakers swung aggressively towards boosting their economy in the face of the sharp downturn then underway.

A massive fiscal stimulus package focused on infrastructure spending was announced, monetary conditions were eased aggressively, various industry support plans were released, the gradual appreciation of the renminbi came to an end, and policies to promote consumption were stepped up.

The evidence clearly suggests this is bearing fruit:
- Money supply and loan growth has surged.
- Fixed asset investment has picked up to a 30 per cent year-on-year pace from a low around 22 per cent in December.
- Industrial production is growing again.
- Real retail sales growth has remained strong.
- Surveys of business conditions in manufacturing and services sectors have improved for five months in a row.
- Property sales are rising.
- The downswing in Chinese exports appears to be diminishing, reflecting the stabilisation in global conditions.

The broad-based nature of the pick-up in China suggests it is more than just a bounce associated with the end of the inventory de-stocking cycle. The improvement in manufacturing conditions points to an acceleration in GDP growth this year.

These considerations suggest a recovery is in progress and growth is back on track to be around 8 per cent this year.

But is it real?

There will no doubt be setbacks along the way but there are good reasons to believe the rebound now being seen in China is sustainable. First of all, consumer spending in China has a huge potential for strong growth. Unlike in countries such as the US and Australia, where consumption accounts for around 60-70 per cent of GDP, in China it has fallen to less than 50 per cent. So there is significant potential to push it back up.

Several considerations are worth noting:

Despite common perceptions, Chinese consumption has actually been growing very strongly. It is just that business investment and net exports have been growing faster. This reflected a combination of factors, including economic policies designed to boost investment and exports, which were partly motivated by a desire to ensure China did not become vulnerable to a withdrawal of foreign capital as occurred in the Asian crisis. There are also strong levels of household savings as the social safety net was wound back last decade.

The Chinese Government has shifted to promoting more balanced growth with much greater emphasis on consumer spending. With the global crisis highlighting the downside of being too reliant on exports, this adjustment has been stepped up and includes an emphasis on boosting consumption. Policies designed to reduce household savings include measures to boost social security, moves to raise health insurance coverage from 50 per cent to 90 per cent of the population, labour reforms to boost wages, tax concessions and subsidies to purchase cars and real estate, and specific assistance for rural workers.

Chinese per capita consumption of consumer items is a fraction of that in advanced economies, suggesting there is significant pent-up demand. For example, in China there is one car for every 60 people compared with almost one for every two in the US and Australia. Living space per person in China is about 10 per cent of what it is in the US and Australia. Between 15 and 20 million people are moving to the cities every year, attracted by higher incomes, which generates strong demand growth for housing and consumer goods.

Household saving is very high and household debt is miniscule. Household debt is just 14 per cent of GDP in China, compared with 60 per cent in Europe, 100 per cent in the US, 104 per cent in Australia and 110 per cent in the UK. So China's households will not be constrained by the more restricted credit environment and de-leveraging that will hold back many developed countries in the next few years.

None of this is to say Chinese consumers will save the world, and without a quick return to strong export growth it is hard to see Chinese growth quickly returning to 11 per cent or more. However, it does indicate there is significant scope for strong growth in consumer spending to underwrite sustained Chinese growth of 9 to 10 per cent per year.

In short, while many developed countries are constrained by structural problems in the form of high debt levels, China's downturn has been mainly cyclical and structural forces remain tailwinds for growth.

Turnbull attacks Chinalco's plan for Rio

Looks have to postpond the Rio's share purchasing ...where would u go???

Chinese Econ now is back to its upturn, couldn't say it successfully stepped out of the global trading retreat, however, internal consumption might be another way to boom current econ. During the recession, one good thing about Chinese market is that the government is still taking control of the major biz sectors especially in areas of resources & major manufacturing factories, here of course, other than Bazil, Australia is acting as the major trading partner who are supplying huge amount of mining raw materials, during the last few years, thanks to the booming iron & construction industries, export price has kept climbing sharply, but would this situation could ever come back if Chinese government controlled the buying end??? However, how can Rio survive in this super hard time without selling shares/mining sites to Chinalco? Conflict of interest...long term/short term profit...Rio could not affort another mistake, shareholders' pockets have becomed thin enough during 2008.

Rio, you let me succeed once, can I expect another? Or maybe BHP is safer for long term saying???

Malcolm Turnbull, the former Goldman Sachs executive who last year became leader of Australia's federal opposition, has launched a stinging attack on Chinalco's proposed $19.5bn investment in Rio Tinto, the Anglo-Australian mining group.

Mr Turnbull has called on Canberra to reject the controversial deal, the largest investment ever undertaken by a Chinese company, because it fails to meet Australia's national interest.
The surprise intervention by Mr Turnbull, the most senior politician yet in Australia to oppose the deal, comes as the country's Foreign Investment Review Board enters the final six weeks of its assessment period on the tie-up between the Chinese metals company and Rio.

Mr Turnbull said he had three major concerns, including that Chinalco as a state-owned business is part of the Chinese government and that there were conflicts of interest where a "major purchaser of our commodities" also had a position of influence and access to information in the operation of a leading producer of the same commodities.

"Third, there is the matter of mutuality. There is no prospect that an Australian or any foreign company would be able to acquire a stake of this kind in a major Chinese resource company - not least because they are all state-owned," he said.

Canberra last year approved Chinalco acquiring up to 14.99 per cent of Rio's London-listed shares. However, Chinalco is proposing to pay $7.2bn for convertible bonds that would lift its stake in the dual-listed mining group's combined share register from 9 to 18 per cent. Chinalco is also planning to pay Rio $12.3bn for minority stakes in some of the mining group's best operations. These include the Hamersley iron ore operations in Western Australia; the Escondida copper mine in Chile; and its Australian aluminium division.

Mr Turnbull noted that Chinalco would also have the power to transfer those stakes to another Chinese enterprise. "The deal therefore is, for all practical purposes, between Rio and the government of China itself," he said.

Mr Turnbull's comments sparked a strong reaction from Wayne Swan, Australia's treasurer. Mr Swan has the power to veto the deal or demand changes and conditions irrespective of FIRB's recommendations.

"The saddest thing about Mr Turnbull's speech today is that not even he believes it," Mr Swan said.
Some of Mr Turnbull's comments echo those of Barnaby Joyce, leader of the opposition National party in Australia's upper house, the Senate. In a privately funded TV advert in March, Mr Joyce said: "The Australian government would never be allowed to buy a mine in China, so why would we allow the Chinese to buy and control a key strategic asset in Australia."

(Chteau Latour)

(Chteau Lafite Rothschild)

(Chteau Mouton Rothschild)

(Chteau Haut-Brion)

(Chteau Margaux)

(Chteau Pétrus)

(Louis Roederer Cristal)

(DRC.Romanée-Conti)

(Chteau d’Yquem)

(Dom Pérignon)

Don't know is this book really giving us the correct explaination of 2008 US Financial Crisis, but it really presented something we have never been thinking about, quite interesting that Mr Song summarised the striving for evolution of monetary policy as the reason of assassination of those 7-8 US presidents??? Should we go ahead with GOLD or US$??? Detective novel or a briliant Financial Analysis text book??? Don't know, but love to read something fresh with clever points... & the only thing I concern is that the Exchange rate of AUD/RMB, eventually is when I can buy my own lovely place... haha, all - enjoy the slowing market in 2009, we will survive.
